TRUSTING & HOLDING ON TO CHRIST IN LIFE

(Going Forward in Christ: GFIC 30)

The Lord Jesus told His disciples: “You believe in God; believe also in Me” (John 14:1). The reason is that God sent His Son Jesus to be our Saviour and Redeemer, and only through Him we can have a relationship with Father God. Jesus said, “I Am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one come to the Father except through Me” (Jn 14:6). Jesus is “The Great I Am” of the Old Testament – God Himself Who became Man so that He could save us from our sins.

The Bible tells us that Jesus is “the Fullness of the Godhead Bodily, and you are complete in Him” (Col.2:9-10). For all those who have believed in Christ, we are told, “Of His Fullness have we all received, grace upon grace” (Jn 1:16). Our sufficiency is in Christ alone; everything we need is found in Him. For in Him we are “complete” – because He comes to give us “life to the full” (Jn 10:10b). In Him and in His Presence is “fullness of joy and eternal pleasures” at His Right Hand (Psalm 16:11). What a wonderful life we have in Him. Praise God!

Jesus is also the Creator and Sustainer of all things in this Universe: “For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together” (Col.1:16-17). Because of Who He is, “He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His Power that is at work within us” (Eph.3:20). We have “His Power at work within us” – that is, the Spirit of Christ, the Holy Spirit. Therefore, in Him we will always have the victory! Hallelujah!

This gives us the confidence that we can always hold on to Christ and keep believing in Him. As the Word of God exhorts us: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding, but in all your ways to submit to Him and He will direct your path” (Prov.3:5-6). Another Version says, “He will make your path smooth”. As the song says, “He will make way where there is no way.” The Lord Himself promises us that He will never leave us nor forsake us, but He will be with us always, even to the end of the world.

The Christian life is a life of faith – trusting God and His Word always, because He is the Faithful God Who keeps His Word and Promises. Hence, we are exhorted thus: “For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Cor.5:7). To walk “by sight” means to depend on the flesh – on our own human wisdom, strength, and ability. Let us heed the words of the song: “The arm of flesh will fail you”!

Faith delights God because it shows that we know Who He is and that He can be trusted. The Bible tells us that “Without faith it is impossible to please Him; for he who comes to God must believe that He is and He is and that He is the Rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Heb.11:6). So let us hold on to Christ fervently and trust Him at all times, even when things seem difficult. God is able to turn things around for our good and for His Glory. Amen.
