LIVE YOUR LIFE WISELY

(Biblical & Spiritual Exhortations: BSE 6)

Life is the gift of God and is precious. It is sustained by the Grace and Mercy of God. The Bible says, “For what is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes” (James 4:14). This reminds us that life is fragile and uncertain: we do not know how long we will live and what may happen tomorrow. We are alive by the Grace of God, “Whose mercies are new every morning, for Great is His Faithfulness”.

The Israel-Hamas and Ukraine Russian Wars and the recent Myanmar Earthquake as well as the frequent natural disasters in the world have killed untold thousands and injured millions. They remind us that anything can happen to us. What about accidents and unforeseen circumstances? Our lives and circumstances are beyond our control and therefore we need to consider seriously how we live and what we live for.

Knowing the brevity and uncertainty of life, the Psalmist prayed: “So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psa.90:12). Solomon tells us that “The Fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For through wisdom your days will be many, and your years will be added to your life” (Proverbs 9:10-11). The promise of a long and satisfied life is for those who not only fear and but also love God: “Because he loves Me”, says the LORD, “I will protect him…I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show Him My salvation” (Psa.91:14-16).

Living for God and Christ is the wisest decision we can make in life. WHY?

  1. Because He created us to glorify Him: “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive Glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they were created and have their being” (Rev.4:11). Therefore, glorify God in everything we do: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all for the Glory of God” (1 Cor.10:31).

  2. Because Christ redeemed us and our life belongs to Him: “For the Love of Christ compels us, because we are convinced that He died for all, and therefore all died, that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for Him Who died for them and was raised again.” (2 Cor.5:14-15).

Because we belong to God: “For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. For this very reason. Christ died and returned to life so that He might be the Lord of both the dead and the living” (Rom.14:7-9). We are not our own, for we have been bought with the Price of His Blood (1 Cor.6:19, 20). Therefore, let us live for Him and for His Glory.
