MAKE JESUS LORD AND KING
(Biblical & Spiritual Exhortations: BSE 9)
We have just celebrated Easter, which tells us that Jesus rose from the dead the third day after He was crucified for our sins. Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life and those who believe in Him have the hope of Eternal Life and Heaven. Our Lord said, “Because I live, you also shall live” (John 14:19b).
After His Resurrection, Jesus was exalted to the Highest Place, far above all principalities and powers and seated at the Right Hand of the Majesty on High. ALL Authority in Heaven and on earth has been given to Him by the Father. He is also given the “NAME that is above all other names, so that at the Name of Jesus every knee must bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the Glory of the Father” (Matt.18:18; Phil.2:9-11). Jesus now reigns as King of kings and Lord of lords and will one day judge the world and all mankind at His Coming. So let us make sure He is Lord and King of our lives.
On the Day of Pentecost, the Apostle Peter preached to the crowds about the Life and Works of Christ and then about His Death and Resurrection. Then He concluded his sermon with these words: “Let all Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus Whom you crucified, both Lord and King” (Acts 2:36). Notice these words, “God has made this Jesus … both Lord and King”. It is God’s command and will that all mankind “make this Jesus Lord and King”. And if we, who profess to know Jesus as Saviour and Redeemer, do not make Him Lord and King of our lives, then we are disobedient to God’s command and will. So then how can we expect God to bless us and keep our lives safe from the kingdom of darkness?
The Bible tells us that unless Jesus is Lord, we cannot even be saved: “If you declare with your mouth “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved” (Rom.10:9-10 – NIV). Many people say they believe in Jesus but they are living their own lives without any regard for the Glory of God because they do not acknowledge the Lordship of Christ. Jesus gave this warning: “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only the one who does the will of My Father in Heaven” (Matt.7:21). The will of the Father is that everyone makes Jesus Lord and King! So are you saved from your sins and the Judgment of God? The only certainty we have of salvation and Heaven is to acknowledge Jesus as Lord and King.
There are too many nominal Christians in our churches today. These are those who profess to believe in Jesus but do not live for Him. They are still worldly minded and are not committed to Christ and the Church because Jesus is not Lord and King in their lives. Yet, they think they are saved and will go to Heaven one day. That is a deception and the lie of the devil. So please be warned. Make Jesus your Lord and King today!
