THE HOLY SPIRIT IN OUR LIFE

(Biblical & Spiritual Exhortations: BSE 26)

When a person believes and receives Christ into his life as Lord and Savior, he is born again of the Holy Spirit and becomes a child of God. The Holy Spirit is the Seal of our Redemption and guarantees that Heaven will be our home one day (Eph.1:13-14). If we do not have the Spirit of Christ in us, then we do not belong to Him (Rom.8:9).

The Lord Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit to be our Counselor, Helper and Guide as well as our Teacher. He said, “When the Helper, the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My Name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you…He will guide you into all Truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will tell you what is yet to come” (John 14:26; 16:13).

The Bible commands us to “be filled with the Holy Spirit” (Eph.5:18) and “walk in the Spirit and keep in step with the Spirit” (Gal.5:16, 25). The reason: “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God” (Rom.8:14). The word “led” also means “controlled” by the Spirit of God. Before knowing Christ, we were controlled by the evil spirit. Being Spirit-led is proof that we have Christ in us and that we have been “born again” and become “a new creation; old things are passed away and all things have become new” (2 Cor.5:17).Jesus tells us that “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you” (Acts 1:8). His Divine Power enables us to overcome temptation, sin, and Satan so that we can live a holy life and please God. The Bible says, “His Divine Power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him (Christ) Who called us by His own Glory and Goodness” (2 Peter 1:3). So, the Christian has no excuse not to live a holy life. That is why the Bible says, “Walk in the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh” (Gal.5:16).

The Power of the Holy Spirit also gives us the boldness of faith to witness for Christ. That means we will not be afraid to tell people of our faith and share the Gospel. The Bible says that “God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Tim.1:7 – NKJV). Let us speak for Jesus whenever He gives us the opportunity to testify for Him. He wants all men to know that He loves them and died for their sins to save them.

The Holy Spirit’s main ministry is to reveal Jesus to us so that we may know Him better and understand the things of God. Jesus says that “He will teach you all things” and that “He will guide you into all Truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak…He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you” (John 14:26; 16:13-14). The Holy Spirit inspired the Writing of Holy Scripture (2 Tim.3:16) and therefore He will also give us wisdom and understanding as we read the Bible. So, ask Him to help you understand before your read your Bible. Remember, Jesus said that “He will teach you all things”. So let us depend on Him to reveal Jesus to us so that we may love Him more.
