EXALTATION OF CHRIST AS LORD & KING

(Biblical Teachings on The Christian Life.: BTCL 24)

The Bible declares that The Son is the Radiance of God’s Glory and the Exact Representation of His Being, sustaining all things by His Powerful Word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the Right Hand of the Majesty in Heaven” (Heb.1:3). The “Right Hand” is the exalted position of Authority, Power and Honor. Hence the Word says, “Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the Name that is above every name, that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, in Heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the Glory of the Father” (Phil.2:9-11). With this exaltation in mind Jesus said, “All authority in Heaven and earth has been given to Me” (Matt.28:18). This means all Creation must submit to His Authority.

Jesus Christ is Lord and Sovereign in Heaven and earth, and over all Creation - mankind and all angelic beings (good or evil) must submit to Him. For His Name is above every name of human authority (kings & governors, etc.), the animal and demonic kingdoms and they are all subject to His Lordship. There is Power and Authority in the Name of Jesus. When we in faith invoke that Name in prayer and ministry we will see His Power at work in healing, deliverance and victory over demonic powers. Jesus said, “I have given you Authority over all the powers of the enemy and nothing shall harm you” (Luke 10:19).

The Lord Jesus is in control of everything in Heaven and earth. Nothing happens without His permission in the lives of His children – even Satan has to ask His Permission to try to harm Job, the servant of God (Job 1 & 2). If we are living a holy life and walking in His will, we should never be afraid of anything in this world. No trial can come to us, and no spiritual attack is allowed without our Lord’s permission. So let us never be afraid. Faith and love cast out fear.

When we walk in faith and in God’s will, we can do what the Bible instructs: “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (1 Thes.5:18). The reason is that “For it is God Who causes all things to work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose” (Rom.8:28-NASV). God allows Satan to severely test Job because of His divine purpose. Jesus the Perfect Son of God suffered at the hands of evil men and “hammered” by Satan because of the Divine Purpose in saving us. We may undergo trials and suffering because we love God and are called to a special purpose. God is molding us in order to prepare us to fulfill His higher purpose. Of Jesus, the Bible says: “For it was fitting that He…should make the Founder of their Salvation perfect through suffering” (Heb. 2:10-ESV).

God takes us through the mill to refine us so that we will be fit for the Master’s use. So we must trust God in all circumstances and believe that good will come out of “evil” because God allows it to happen. Remember, He is in control. “Walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Cor 5:7). Hence, we must trust God and not lean on our human understanding but submit to Him (Prov.3:5-6).
