LORDSHIP OF CHRIST AND OUR VICTORY
(Biblical Teachings on The Christian Life.: BTCL 26)
Our Lord Jesus, after “He had by Himself purged our sins” is now seated “at the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Heb.1:3). All Authority in Heaven and on earth is now given to Him, because “His Name is above all other names, so that at the Name of Jesus every knee must bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of the Father” (Phil.2:9-11). He is now the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He reigns supreme over all, and all Heaven and all creation must subject to Him. This gives great comfort and assurance to all His beloved children who truly acknowledge His Lordship over their lives.
Firstly, we are assured that He is in control of all things in this world and in our life. Nothing in our life will happen without His permission if we love Him and walk in accordance with His will. Even trials and spiritual warfare can only happen when our Lord allows it. Just like Job – Satan had to get God’s permission before he can cause trouble for him (Job 1 & 2). Jesus said to Peter, “Simon, Simon, Satan asked to sift you as wheat” (Lk 22:31-32). Satan needed permission from our Lord before “attacking” Peter! If He allows trials and temptation to come into our life, that means it will be for our good.James says it is to make us “perfect, lacking in nothing” (1:4). Jesus the Son of God was holy and perfect on earth, yet He went through the most severe trials that no human had ever experienced. Why? Because God had an eternal purpose and gave Satan permission to do His worse. Good came out of that Satanic onslaught! Salvation came to sinners because Jesus suffered. Praise the Lord!
Secondly, we are assured of victory in Jesus all the time. The Bible says, “If God be for us, who can be against us? Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us…He always causes us to triumph in Christ Jesus” (Rom.8:31, 37; 2 Cor 2:17). Our Lord Himself said, “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). The Word of God again assures us, “And this is the victory that overcomes the world – even our faith” (1 Jn 5:4). Our faith in the risen Supreme Lord Jesus guarantees our victory all the time. Praise be to God!
Thirdly, God’s plan and purpose for our life can never be thwarted. The Lord has promised us: “I know My plans for you; they are for good- that you may have hope and a future” (Jer.29:11). Despite the trials he went through, Job in faith said this to God, "I know that You can do all things, and that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted” (Job 42:2). Satan tried to destroy God’s plan of salvation by his attack on Christ but he failed. He tried to do the same with Simon Peter but he also failed. The Lord knows those who are His and whom He has called and covered with His Blood. The Bible says, “No weapon fashioned against us shall prosper” (Isa.54:17) because we are under the protection of our Supreme Lord. Hallelujah! Thanks be to God for the victory we always have in Christ Jesus! Amen!
