THE HOPE OF THE RESURRECTION
(Biblical Teachings on The Christian Life.: BTCL 28)
This weekend is the most powerful three days in History and in the Calendar. It begins with Good Friday when Jesus the Son of God died on the Cross 2026 years ago to save sinners and destroy the power of sin and Satan. On the Cross, “God made Him Who knew no sin to become sin for us that we might become the Righteousness of God in Him” (2 Cor.5:21). That is how much God loves us sinners: “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the Atoning Sacrifice for our sins” (1 John 4:10). Religion and good works cannot take away our sins or save us from Judgment and Hell. Hence God sent His Son to take away our sins and forgive all who believe in Him so that they may be saved and have Eternal Life.
On the third day (Sunday) on that first Easter morning, Jesus rose from the dead. By rising from the dead, Jesus proved that He is indeed the Son of God Who is worthy to be our Saviour and Lord. He is the Risen Lord Who gives us a new life and power to overcome our sinful life and bad habits. Most important of all, He gives us the assurance of Eternal Life and Heaven. No one in history can promise us or assure us of that hope. The Lord Jesus said, “I am the Resurrection and the Life; he who believes in Me shall live even though he dies” (John 11:25).
The Resurrection of Christ gives hope to all mankind who are seeking God and salvation. It gives guaranteed hope and assurance of Heaven and Eternal Life. The joyful news of Easter is “He is risen! He is alive!” Jesus said, “Because I live, you also will live”! (John 14: 19) Easter is the celebration of this Hope! It is the day of glad tidings and joy! Hallelujah!
The fact that Christ is risen means that He can be with us always – everywhere and in every situation in life. Hence, we can say with the Psalmist, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me, Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me” (Psa.23:4). In place of fear there is His peace “which passes all understanding that shall garrison our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” (Phil.4:6-7).
Because Jesus is risen, He hears every prayer of faith uttered in His Name. Hence, He promised, “Whatever you ask in My Name I will do it” (John 14:13-14). No use praying to a dead person or lifeless thing. They cannot hear or answer prayer or do anything. The Risen Lord is with us and always there to hear our prayer and come to our help in time of need. What a wonderful Friend and Lord we have in Jesus – take everything to Him in prayer!
Jesus is the Conqueror over sin, death and Satan. In Him we will walk in victory, come what may! In Him we are overcomers! The Bible says, “We are more than conquerors through Him Who loved us” (Rom.8:37). Hallelujah! The doubting Thomas believed when he saw the Risen Lord and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”. Then Jesus said, “Because you have seen Me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29).
May you be blessed in believing and loving Him even though you have not seen Him!
