THE ENEMY IS ON THE WARPATH

(Spiritual Warfare: SW 02)

When Lucifer was thrown out of Heaven, he vowed revenge against God and His people. Thus we read, “When the dragon (Satan) saw that he was cast out unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the Man Child (Jesus)…and the dragon was enraged with the woman, and went to make war against the rest of her offspring – those who obey God’s commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus” (Rev.12:13, 17). Make no mistake: he has declared war against “those who obey God’s commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus”- that is, the followers of Jesus Christ. So be warned!

The fierceness of our enemy is described this way: “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith…” (1 Pet.5:8-9). The lion in the jungle roars to freeze its prey and then kill it. Satan wants to “devour” or eat up the believers like a lion does with its prey! So be warned. We should not be complacent and walk around as if he is non-existent. Too many Christians and even Christian workers have already been devoured by him and fallen in the sand.

Our Lord called Satan a thief: “The thief comes to steal, to kill and to destroy” (John 10:10a). That also tells us how he operates in seeking to “down” all God’s saints. He comes to steal God’s blessings due to us by deceiving and lying to us. Like the way he deceived Adam and Eve with lies in the Garden and stole all their blessings. Their blessings turned into curses and they were thrown out of the Garden of Blessings.

Satan killed Adam and Eve – both physically and spiritually - when he deceived them into disobeying God. They were meant to live forever, without physical death or spiritual separation from God. Thus Paul wrote: “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way, death came to all men, because all have sinned” (Rom.5:12). The devil also seeks to destroy the souls of men in Hell by deceiving them into believing false gods and religions instead of worshipping the True and Living God. Many so-called “Christians” have been deceived into following false teachers and prophets and believing “doctrines taught by demons” advocated by these evil preachers (1 Tim. 4:1).

The Apostle Paul tells us that we should not be ignorant of the devil’s devices (2 Cor.2:11). We should be aware that he comes into the Church in the guise of “an angel of light” to deceive the saints and draw them away from God (2 Cor.11:13-14). These false teachers may seem to be very “anointed” in preaching and performing signs and wonders. Even our Lord warns us about them, so let us be alert and not be fooled by them (Matt.24:10-11, 24-25). The devil is on the warpath. He is targeting you and me by every foul means he knows in order to stop us from gaining ground for God and His Kingdom. So let us be wise. Let us put on Christ (Rom.13:14) and the whole Armour of God (Eph.6:10-20).
