WALKING IN THE CENTER OF GOD’S WILL

(Walking In God’s Will : WIGW 2)

There is a saying: “The best place to be is to be in the center of God’s will”. How very true! Yet so many Christians are “scared” of knowing God’s will because they want to do what they like. They think walking in God’s will means that they cannot “enjoy life” but must go around with a sober “funeral face”. The Bible says God’s will is “perfect” (Rom 12:2); which means nothing can be compared with it. Nothing is this world is perfect; and nothing we can do is ever perfect. But God’s will is ‘perfect’ so there must be something wonderful connected with it.

The only Perfect Person that ever lived was Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. He walked in the perfect will of the Father and what a powerful life He lived! No one in History can match even a bit of His Person and Life. Everything about Him was perfect because He lived to fulfill God’s will. He said, “I have come to do Thy will, O God…My food is to do the will of Him Who sent Me and to finish His work” (Heb.10:7; John 4:34). What an impact He made on the world and in History. He is the Light of the world that gives light to everyone born into the world, and especially to those who follow Him (John 1:4; 8:12).

Doing God’s will is the most important aspect of the Christian life. That is why Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to Me “Lord, Lord” will enter the Kingdom of Heaven but he who does the will of My Father in Heaven” (Matt 7:21). The Apostle John tells us also that “he who does the will of God abides forever” (1 Jn 2:17). By this condition alone, how many so-called “Christians” will ever see Heaven? That is why our Lord says that only a remnant will be saved; only a few will enter into Eternal Life (Matt 7:13,14).

All our life, we have been living our own way as we want to please ourselves. Frank Sinatra’s famous song depicts the pride that is in every person: “I did it my way”. The self-centered life is characterized by “I”, “Me” and “My”. This leaves God totally out of the picture. Is it any wonder that many will perish even though they may say that they are “Christians”?

Once we have committed our life in total surrender to Jesus, we must “deny self” or “die to self” (Lk 9:23), or be “crucified with Christ” (Gal. 2:20) so that we may live to do the will of God. The Apostle Peter instructs us thus: “Since therefore Christ suffered in the body, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking…so as to live for the rest of the time in the body no longer for human passions but for the will of God” (1 Pet 4:1-2). A transformation must take place in our life in Christ because we have become “a new creation – old things are passed away and behold all things have become new” (2 Cor 5:17). A transformation of mind, heart and life is the evidence of our new life in Christ. We are transformed into the image of Christ to walk in His way and do the will of God, just as He did. Thus, the Bible says, “Whoever lives in Him must walk as Jesus walked” (1 Jn 2:6). Being a Christian means to abandon the life of self to live for Christ alone and walk in the will of the Father. Then Eternal Life and Heaven will be guaranteed!
