KNOWING AND WALKING IN GOD’S WILL - 2

(Walking In God’s Will : WIGW 4)

To know God’s will and walk in His way, we need to know Him well and know what He desires of His children. We also need to be sincere in really wanting to please and glorify Him. Some only say they want to know God’s will and way but don’t really mean it. We need to be honest with ourselves and serious with God before we can even decide to seek His will. God’s will is perfect and His ways are always righteous and good for His children. So why are we afraid to seek His will and walk in His way? To know God’s will and way, we need to do the following:

1. We need to consecrate our life to Him.
The Bible says, “Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your minds…then you may prove what is that good, acceptable and perfect will of God” (Rom.12:1-2). That means yielding our life to God and begin to live for Christ as Lord of your life.

2. We need to know God’s Word and do what it says.
The Bible is the Word of God and is the compass for our life. God reveals His mind and will in His Word. Hence, we must read it, meditate on it and apply it to our life. The Psalmist says, “Your Word is a Lamp to my feet and a Light for my path” (Ps 119:105). He also says, “The unfolding of Your Words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple” (119:129). You will understand God’s will and revelations through His Word so that you may walk in His way. God told Joshua, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night that you may observe to do all that is written therein. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Josh 1:8).

3. We need to depend on the Holy Spirit for guidance.
The Lord Jesus tells us that the Holy Spirit is our Counselor and that “He is the Spirit of Truth who will guide you into all Truth” (Jn 14:26; 16:13). The Lord gives us this assurance: “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. I will guide you with my eye” (Ps 32:8). He does this through His Holy Spirit Who lives in us.

In order to experience the Spirit’s guidance, we need to “be filled with the Spirit” and “walk in the Spirit” as well as “keep in step with the Spirit” (Eph 5:18; Gal.5:16,25). That simply means we must yield to Him and let Him take control of our life. Just say to Him, “Holy Spirit, I need you. I surrender my life to you. Please take control of my life and guide me. I promise to do what you tell me. In Jesus’ Name I ask, Amen”. But we must mean what we pray! “Walking in the Spirit” simply means keeping close to Him and doing what we hear from Him. It is like two friends walking side by side and doing together what they talk about. He speaks, we hear and obey - doing according to His instruction. That’s walking in His will and way.
