GOD’S WAY IS THE BEST WAY

(Walking In God’s Will : WIGW 5)

Proverbs 14:12 gives a warning about following the way of man. It says: “There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof is the way of death”. Man is sinful and spiritually corrupt. His mind is blinded by Satan (2 Cor 4:4), and therefore cannot see clearly. Even a Christian’s mind is often clouded by worldly influence and marred by his sinful nature. So, to depend on one’s own “wisdom” is unwise and even also dangerous. The best way is to seek God’s way and not depend on one’s own initiative and so-called educated wisdom or human experience. The wisdom of man and the world is foolishness in God’s sight.

The chorus of an old hymn goes like this: “God’s way is the best way; God’s way is the right way. I’ll trust Him always, He knoweth the best”. How very true! The Bible says that “His way is perfect” (Psa. 18:30). That is because God is Perfect and He knows everything. He knows the beginning from the end. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts and His ways are higher than our ways, just as the heavens are higher than the earth (Isaiah 55:8-9). Hence seeking God for direction and asking Him to show us the way is the wisest decision we can make always. God Himself has promised that He wants to and will guide His children. He said,“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. I will counsel you and watch over you” (Psalm 32:8). He cannot do that unless we want to and seek Him for guidance.

God’s way is the way of blessing. Moses understood this and said to his people: “Walk in all the way that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the lands that you will possess” (Deut.5:33). Notice the promise: “that you may live and prosper and prolong your days”. To “live” here means “to live the abundant life” – that is, a life of peace, security and victory. Along with that God will give prosperity and long life. Isn’t this the kind of life everyone is seeking? God knows that and He wants to give that to us, provided we make up our minds to “walk in the way that the LORD your God has commanded you”. It is wisdom to choose to walk in His way!

We can know God’s way through His Holy Word. The Bible is our Manual for life and the Divine Compass to guide us in the right way. God instructed Joshua thus: “This Book of the Law (God’s Word) shall not depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful” (Josh 1:8). That is why our Lord said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Matt.4:4). How can a Christian not make the Word of God part and parcel of his life? Not to do so is foolishness!

Job was tested severely but held on and came out victorious because of his faith in following the way of the Lord. He said, “My feet have closely followed His steps; I have kept to His way without turning aside” (23:11). Let us learn from him and live victoriously.
