VICTORY THROUGH THE WORD OF GOD
(Growing in Faith, in Truth & in Spirit: GFTS 9)
The Lord Jesus said, “The Words I have spoken to you – they are full of the Spirit and Life” (John 6:63-NIV). This alone should ignite joy and desire in our hearts to want to read and store up His Words in our life. Holy Scripture is the Word of Life because they are spoken by God and inspired by the Holy Spirit (2 Tim. 3:16). If we take in God’s Word we will be “full of the Spirit and Life” as Jesus said. Why are we not saturating our life with His Word?
Many Christians don’t live a successful and victorious life because they don’t take God’s Word seriously or they don’t spend time reading and meditating on it. The Word is food for our soul and spirit and helps us to grow in faith and spirit (1 Pet.2:2). If we want to be strong spiritually and overcome temptation and defeat the devil, we need to be filled with God’s Word and use it as a two-edged Sword against him (Eph.6:17; Heb.4:12). Our Lord in the Temptation defeated Satan by just quoting Scripture (Matt.4:1-12). We need to have God’s Word in our hearts in order to use it against Satan’s temptation. But how many Christians memorise Scripture? How many even want to attend serious Bible Study sessions?
God’s Word also protects us from sinning. The Psalmist said, “I have hidden Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against you” (Psa.119:11). When Jesus said His Words are “full of Life” it means that we will have victory over sin through the power of His Words. Even physically, if we are not “full of life” we will be weak and easily succumb to sickness and disease. Weak physical body gives way to frailty and sickness. Similarly, when we are weak spiritually, we fall into the trap of Satan and demons invade our life with fear, worry, sickness and sinful desires and habits. Then our life become full of failures, fear and unhappiness.
The Word of God also creates faith in us: “Faith come by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (Rom.10:17). The more we have God’s Word in us, then the more our faith will grow and increase. This faith will enable to “move mountains” and do great works for God. Faith is also the gift of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said that His Words are “full of the Spirit” and therefore the Word and the Spirit are Spiritual Companions in our life. Together, they make us powerful spiritually so that we can be overcomers in Christ. Hence, we will always walk in victory and success. Praise the Lord!
The Lord Jesus also said in His Prayer to the Father, “Sanctify them by the Truth; Your Word is Truth” (John 17:17). The devil is a liar and a deceiver and he controls the whole world with his lies and deception (1 John 5:19). Many Christians are influenced by worldly knowledge and philosophy; hence they are deceived. But God’s Word will reveal such deception to us and we will overcome them. Jesus said, ”You will know the Truth and the Truth will set you free” (Jon 8:32). We will be free from deception, fear and uncertainty so that we will walk in Peace, Joy and Victory. HALLELUJAH!
