FAITH IN GOD’S FAITHFULNESS
(Growing in Faith, in Truth & in Spirit: GFTS 18)
This past week we celebrated God’s Faithfulness to our Church for the past 21 years. He has seen us through many trials and changes throughout these years. Most importantly, He has blessed us more than we deserved. Thus, we can sing, “His mercies are new every morning; Great is Thy Faithfulness”. Truly our God is a Faithful God Who keeps and fulfils His Word, and His promises are always ‘Yes’ and ‘Amen’ in Christ, to the Glory of God. Thank you, God!
God’s Faithfulness guarantees us that our faith in Him and His Word will not be in vain. Our life and salvation are safe in His Hands, as long as we are walking faithfully with Him and trusting Him all the time. Just as another song says, ‘His Faithfulness never fails’; we also sing ‘All my life You have been faithful; all my life You have been so, so good’. Let us then hold firmly to our faith in Him and His Word. Hold on to the end!
Faith in God’s Faithfulness is the KEY to fulfilment and victory in the Christian life. It is believing that God is Good and He loves us no matter what. Life has its ups and downs, trials and tribulations. It in such difficult times when we struggle through adverse circumstances that we must hold on to faith in the Faithful God. He did not promise that our Chistian life would be a bed of roses when we believe in Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. But He did promise us that He will be with us always, through thick and thin; through the sun and the rain and through the storms of life. How right when the Psalmist cried out in faith: “God is our Refuge and Strength; an Ever-present Help in times of trouble” (Psalm 46:1).
The testimonies of Joseph and Job in the Old Testament are an encouragement and a challenge to us today. They went through severe trials – beyond what most people would have experienced in their life time. Yet, they remained faithful to God and never give up their trust in God. Just think of Job’s faith when he lost everything, and even all his precious children. Yet, he can say: “The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the Name of the Lord!” (Job 1:21-KJV). Joseph was betrayed by his own brothers and they sold him to be a slave and he suffered untold miseries. But by God’s Grace he ended up as the Prime Minister of Egypt many years later. Later he forgave his brothers and told them: “You meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, to save much people alive today” (Gen.50:20).
What can we learn from these OT saints? They had great in the Sovereign God and His Faithfulness. They believed that God is Good and in control of every situation in their lives. They believed that God’s plan for them was for good and not evil and that He will overrule all things for their good. Just the Apostle Paul said, “We know that God causes all things to work for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose” (Rom. 8:28 -NASB). Let us then be faithful to God, and trust Him at all times come what may. As He promised, “Faithful is He Who called you; He also will do it” (1 Thess.5:24). AMEN.
