LIVING A VICTORIOUS LIFE
(Going Forward in Christ: GFIC 28)
When the Lord Jesus died on the Cross, He uttered a shout of Victory: “It is Finished!” (John 19:30). The work of redemption was completed and the power of the devil and sin was defeated. The Cross is the symbol of Victory because Jesus came “to destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8) and that was accomplished by His death at the Cross. Hallelujah!
The true Christian disciple thus fights the principalities and powers from the ground of victory wrought for us by Christ. We do not fight for victory – that has already been achieved. Hence the Bible says that we should be thankful to God for this: “Now thanks be to God Who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing” (2 Cor.2:14-15).
Notice that it says that God “always leads us in triumph in Christ”. We are always walking in victory because Christ has already won the Victory for us by His death and resurrection. PTL! We must not let the devil intimidate us and make us doubt. We have victory over the attacks of the devil and his evil cohorts in the Name and Blood of Jesus. The saints in the Early Church “overcame him (the devil) by the Blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death” (Rev.12:11).
Remember that our victory is only “in Christ”. The means, firstly, we must have a relationship of faith in Christ. Not only must we believe and receive Christ as Lord and Saviour, we must have faith in Him always to give us victory. Secondly it means that only in the Name of Christ we can defeat the devil and his works against us. There is power in the Name of Jesus - because His Name “is above all other names and at His Name every knee must bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord” (Phil.2:11).
The testimony of our victory that we share with others is the sweet “fragrance of the knowledge of Christ” that diffuses through us. This encourages and uplifts the faith of the believers and helps them to trust Christ for victory as we have experienced. It is also a revelation to the unbelievers – for them to know that Christ can save them and give them victory. This testimony will create a spiritual hunger in them and make them want to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Many have come to Christ because what they have heard.
Every Christian disciple should be a walking testimony of God’s Goodness and Victory in Christ. We should freely share our testimony so that people may know Who Christ and what God can do for them through faith in Christ. Legion, who was possessed with many demons was delivered by Christ. Only a one-day-old believer, he went everywhere sharing his testimony as Christ commanded him (Mark 5:1-20). All were amazed by his testimony when they saw his new and victorious life. Praise the Lord! May we always do the same!
